Gosh, gardeners are an intrepid lot. The Forde Abbey spring fair was overshadowed (literally) by the coming of Storm Freya but that didn’t deter them one bit. There was a really good turn out – from as far afield as Norfolk, Kent, Brighton and Birmingham. Proof of the all-year round tourism we enjoy. There was a really good variety of nursery stalls doing good business and we as usual spent plenty on plants ourselves. The driving rain and ever strengthening wind meant people didn’t have much time to browse but we still enjoyed a good level of interest and it was nice to come across so many people who said they knew of us.
Mid morning we had to pack away our exhibits under cover and take down the awnings on the gazebo – we’d already suffered torn zips. However, there was plenty of wind to test out our new maple leaves and umbellifer heads – they swayed just nicely!
Looking forward to seeing people at Burrow Farm Gardens on 21 April – a great time to come to a plant fair as everything else will be shut on Easter Sunday.
